Aligning with Standards

Connect your Bright Quest activities to state and national educational standards.

Why Standards Matter

Educational standards ensure consistency and rigor. Aligning your assessments and assignments with standards ensures you're teaching what students need to know and what they'll be tested on.

Know Your Standards

Familiarize yourself with your state's standards for your subject and grade level. Most states make these freely available online. Read them carefully to understand what students should be able to do.

Mapping Standards to Content

Create a mapping of your Bright Quest quizzes and assignments to specific standards. Document which activities address which standards. This ensures comprehensive coverage.

Bloom's Taxonomy and Standards

Most standards include action verbs (understand, analyze, create). Use Bloom's taxonomy to ensure your assessments align with the cognitive level expected by the standard.

Documentation for Accountability

Document your standards alignment for your own reference and for administrative purposes. This shows that your instruction is purposeful and standards-aligned.

Revisiting and Assessing Standards

Ensure every standard is assessed at some point during the term. Use Bright Quest analytics to see which standards students are mastering and which need reteaching.

Standards-Based Grading

Consider using standards-based grading where possible. Rather than averaging all scores, report on whether students have mastered each standard.
