Quiz Question Templates
Use these templates to quickly create effective quiz questions at every cognitive level.
Recall Questions (Bloom's Level 1)
Template:
"What is [term]?" "Define [concept]." "List [items]."
Example: "What is photosynthesis?"
Comprehension Questions (Bloom's Level 2)
Template:
"Explain why..." "Describe how..." "In your own words, what..."
Example: "Explain why plants need sunlight."
Application Questions (Bloom's Level 3)
Template:
"How would you use [concept] to solve...?" "Which [example] shows...?"
Example: "If you wanted to grow plants indoors, how would you provide photosynthesis requirements?"
Analysis Questions (Bloom's Level 4)
Template:
"Compare and contrast..." "What are the causes of...?" "How does [item] differ from [item]?"
Example: "Compare photosynthesis in trees versus photosynthesis in algae."
Synthesis Questions (Bloom's Level 5)
Template:
"Create..." "Design..." "If [scenario], what would happen?"
Example: "Design an experiment to test which wavelengths of light are most important for photosynthesis."
Evaluation Questions (Bloom's Level 6)
Template:
"Evaluate..." "Judge whether..." "Defend your position on..."
Example: "Evaluate this statement: 'Increasing artificial light exposure would improve plant growth indefinitely.' Explain your reasoning."
Multiple Choice Template
Format: [Clear Question] followed by [One correct answer] + [3-4 plausible but incorrect distractors]
Tip: Avoid "All of the above" or "None of the above" when possible. They reduce test validity.
